Frank Doe - Died on 21 May 1984, aged 73. Born on 06 June 1910 in Brentford, Middlesex.

I was only 4 years old when my Grandad passed away, but my dad is a wonderful man and he worshipped
his dad, that is how I know what a great man my Grandad was. Sadly taken from us in hospital -
diagnosed only 2 weeks before he died with lung cancer. He had seen his doctors with pain and ill
health for around 15 years but was initially told he was malingering (!) and then tragically wrongly
diagnosed with arthritis. I wish I could have known him better.

So proud of him for his bravery during World War 2 - his story is on the BBC WW2 People's War
website which my dad did an amazing job of putting together in his memory. Links to his story in the
8th Army with the Desert Rats can be found here

Me again

Grandad, sorry I haven't written in a while, doesn't mean I don't visit every day. I'm glad I do, as someone has been messing about and putting silly pictures on, which I've now deleted...but hey, they can't have anything better to do with their lives eh? This site is my tribute to you, without you and nan I would not be the person that I am today. We all miss you so so much, but know that you are looking down on us and gently pushing us in the right direction. Love as always, Mel. xxxxxxx

leaving You

For Melanie

Leaving you will be so hard
I know that we will be scarred.
Through the years we have grown up
Now we are about to split up.
It hurts me inside
To know that you will confide
In someone else who isn't me
But they will never be what I try to be.
I'll always be there for you
And I'll always stay true.
You are a part of me
That everyone will see.
You are my grandad and friend
And we'll be that way until the end.
Don't ever let anyone take my place
Because they will never face
All the times that we've shared
Even when we never really cared.
All our memories will be locked up tight
Even all our stupid fights.
The laughs, the tears, the cries, the fears
Have built up through the years.
I'll never let us be apart
And you will always remain in my heart

death is nothing at all

Death is nothing at all - By Canon Henry Scott Oliver

I have only slipped away into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other
That we are still
Call me by my old familiar name
Speak to me in the easy way you always used
Put no difference into your tone
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed
At the little jokes we always enjoyed together
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow in it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute unbroken continuity
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
Because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again

Your Friendship is special
Like the flowers that bloom
Or when a butterfly emerges
From within it's cocoon

You remind of that butterfly
Loving and free
Bright and colourful
For the world to see

We all share sunshine and rainbows
Sometimes, the rain and the snow
We'll stand together through it
While the cold winds blow

When the time is right
We won't stop to ask 'Why?'
Our Friendship will take flight
On the wings of a Butterfly
